Natuurlijke polymeren kunnen chemisch worden gesynthetiseerd uit biologische materialen of biosynthese worden gemaakt door levende organismen. <\/p><p style=\"font-size: 18px; font-style: normal; font-weight: 500;\">Ze bestaan uit monomere eenheden die aan elkaar worden gebonden door covalente bindingen. Deze monomere eenheden vormen grotere moleculen. Omdat biopolymeren afkomstig zijn van levende organismen zoals planten en microben, zijn ze een hernieuwbare hulpbron die biologisch afbreekbaar is.  <\/p><p style=\"font-size: 18px; font-style: normal; font-weight: 500;\">In het algemeen zijn biopolymeren zeer biologisch afbreekbaar. Hierdoor worden ze ook in verschillende sectoren gebruikt. Sectoren die belang hebben in de productie van biopolymeren zijn onder andere de voedingsmiddelen- en biomedische industrie\u00ebn. Biopolymeren zijn veelbelovende materialen vanwege hun eigenschappen. Zoals overvloed in grondstoffen, biocompatibiliteit en unieke eigenschappen zoals niet-toxiciteit.
