Jongia agitator lifted out at WWTP Venlo while mixing continued
At WWTP Venlo, one of the two Jongia agitators was lifted out of the sludge mixing tank in full, for preventive maintenance and as a proof of concept. The mixing process carried on.
In 2025, Jongia Mixing Technology supplied and installed the agitators for Waterschap Limburg’s wastewater treatment plant (RWZI) in Venlo, through civil contractor GMB. Right from the start of the project, the water board set a clear design requirement for the sludge mixing tank: the agitators must be removable from the tank.
Built to come out
Both agitators stand on a bridge over the tank. That bridge is built so that each agitator can be hoisted out at any time — for regular or preventive maintenance, but also in an emergency. On Tuesday, October 27, 2026, the design was put to the test: one of the agitators came out of the tank in one piece.
Redundancy built in
With two agitators, the sludge mixing tank has redundancy: when one agitator is out of service for maintenance or after a failure, the process does not come to an immediate standstill. The lift in Venlo showed exactly that.
- Type LB-125 – built entirely in stainless steel 316L
- Second agitator – stood still only briefly during the lift
- Process continuity – the plant kept running with hardly any disruption
Back in service
Once the agitator was back on the tank, Jongia carried out preventive maintenance on both agitators, including vibration checks and a check of the bearing lubrication. Both are ready to keep going until the next scheduled service.
