Teun van der Spek is a 24-year-old process engineer at Jongia Mixing Technology, originating from Lelystad. His journey into the world of chemical technology and biotechnology began during high school, where his interest in chemistry and physics sparked his academic journey. Teun furthered his studies at NHL Stenden & Van Hall Larenstein in Leeuwarden, earning two bachelor’s degrees in chemical engineering and biotechnology.
Successful integration and achievements at Jongia
Teun joined Jongia just over a year ago, taking the opportunity to gain valuable work experience after completing his chemical engineering degree. He highlighted Jongia’s outstanding culture, emphasizing the company’s open communication channels and collaborative spirit.
Teun expressed his preference for Jongia’s supportive atmosphere over the traditional corporate hierarchy, allowing direct interaction with colleagues and quick problem-solving. This came in handy in Teun’s analytical tasks within Jongia.
As a process engineer in the Liquidz team, Teun outlined his diverse responsibilities, including contributions to the batteries project, internal testing of LiquidZ sensors, and his role in the development of the agitator configurator, a selection software package in which Jongia invests a lot of time and energy and thus gives the digitalization of the company a major push forward.
He proudly mentioned that the configurator, a software package for designing and quoting agitators, is nearly ready for use by the sales team, marking a significant achievement in his career.
Aspirations and advice for newcomers
Looking ahead, Teun envisions a future at Jongia filled with exciting challenges and continuous personal and professional development. As Teun considers potential roles within the company, he emphasizes the importance of being abroad, with dreams of exploring places like Mexico and Iceland.
For those starting their careers at Jongia, Teun offers valuable advice: “Don’t rush. Take every opportunity you can and learn as much as possible. It’s a marathon, not a 100-meter sprint.”
Reflecting on his own journey, he encourages newcomers not to shy away from asking simple questions, emphasizing that everyone starts somewhere.
At Jongia, Teun is one of the new faces and gives color and appearance to the company, both internally and externally. It is great to have Teun as a colleague at Jongia.
